University Heights is an important neighborhood developed from the 1930s through the 1950s. Newer homes were built in each successive addition described in the University Heights sub neighborhoods. Preston and Airline and Lovers Lane and Northwest Highway border University Heights. The size of the homes range from small one and a half story Tudor cottages designed in the late 1930s to one and a half story to two-story homes built in the early 1950s. Within University Heights you will find both Hyer and University Park Elementary Schools. Coffee Park, Curtis Park, Smith Park and Caruth Park are also all located within University Heights.

Neighborhoods of University Heights
University Heights Original Neighborhood
The original addition is found between Tulane and Airline and between Lovers Lane and Purdue. The neighborhood is made up of mostly one and a half story cottages from the late 1930s with some new home construction.
University Heights No 2 & 3 Neighborhood
The larger lots approximately 70’x160′ were conducive to the two-story Georgian and Neo-Classical homes built in the late 1930s and early 1940s between Preston and Airline and Hanover to Caruth. Tennis courts are found in this neighborhood at Caruth Park and Smith Park.
University Heights No 4 & 5 Neighborhood
University Heights No 4 and No 5 is home to Hyer Elementary School. The 70’x150′ lots accommodate the one and a half and two-story homes built in the early 1950s between Preston and Airline, and between Caruth to Centenary.
University Heights No 6 & 7 Neighborhood
University Heights No 6 and No 7 Addition also have homes built in the 1950s on 70’x150′ lots, but these tend to be one-story ranch homes. The boundaries of this neighborhood are Preston, Airline, Centenary and Northwest Highway. In Coffee Park you will find a baseball diamond.
