Max Levy, FAIA, designed this home to embrace nature. He did this by designing the home to fully enjoy the five large live oak trees on the property and to reflect the greenways and the sense of nature in the neighborhood. Max Levy said that by respecting the trees, he was able to orchestrate a floor plan so that views from the home would be centered on the five live oak trees. The rooftop screen porch in the center of the home creates a treehouse space that enjoys a fireplace and view of the pool and the green of the garden.

Strong Architectural Lines Are Gently Eroded by Soft Native Texas Plantings

The White Rock Lake house on four acres is a great example of incorporating native Texas plants and wildflowers to accentuate the long vistas to White Rock Lake and soften the strong edge of the 1930s lake home.

Classical Landscape, Influences of Italy in Architectural Training in Texas

David Hocker received his landscape architecture degree from Texas A&M University, trained with Naud Burnett, and remains strongly influenced by his study in Italy and the time he spends in and around Tuscany as his wife is from Lucignano.

You can see the classical influence of Italy, softened by the agricultural gardens of Tuscany, reinterpreted with the plant life and aesthetics of Texas.

Site Specific Landscape Design

You can see from the many examples of David Hocker’s work, including residential gardens, parks, and urban designs, that he emphasizes in the process of creating a landscape plan that accentuates the site, architectural structure, and his clients’ aesthetics.
