The DeGolyer House is a Beverly Hills interpretation of a hacienda incorporating a sprawling design of many arches, courtyards and a red tile roof. DeGolyer himself called it a Beverly Hills architect's idea of what a Texas oilman thinks a Texas hacienda should look like. The extraordinary library housed an extensive and meaningful collection that became the DeGolyer Collection at the DeGolyer Library at SMU. Everett and Nell DeGolyer's desire for the Spanish Colonial Revival style was probably inspired by his extensive work in Mexico where he achieved much success as a petroleum geologist. This was landscape architect Arthur Berger's first major estate commission of what became a long career with partner, Dick Heiderich.
