Preston Hollow Home Built in 1980’s
6730 Northaven Road, Dallas, Texas
Contemporary Home Cantilevered Over Lake
on 1.51 Acres
Gary Cunningham, FAIA, designed this modern home for its site, a 1.51 acre peninsula. A private road for only two home owners crosses the private bridge and leads to the land surrounded by water on three sides. A long, stairstepped wall and gated entry leads to the garden and provides total privacy for the home surrounded by windows on three sides.
From the kitchen and breakfast room you look across the pool to the lake along the side of the property. The living room is cantilevered over the water with aquatic views in three directions. The dining room is just as magical and serene with warm wood and glazed walls emphasizing the lake wrapping around the house. In many of the rooms sunlight comes in from three directions, streaming across the maple floors, accentuating the art and illuminating the contemporary spaces.
The Northaven Neighborhood is in the Heart of the Private School Corridor

Outdoor Living Room, Pool and Garden in Preston Hollow
The kitchen and breakfast room are connected to the outdoor living room which is framed by the informal entrance wall, the porch, pool, and house. The kitchen is at the core of the home, integrating interior and exterior spaces.
A towering elm tree, specimen trees and a soft edge of natural plant life provide the transition from the pool and groomed garden to the lake. A bridge from the second floor provides views of the garden and leads you to the pool. A cantilevered porch at the end of the living room extends across the water.
Gary Cunningham Refines His Original Preston Hollow Award Winning Home
Architect Gary Cunningham designed this contemporary home and he also designed the recent renovations. This 1985 AIA award winning residence was the first residence designed by Gary Cunningham. Inspired by the unbuilt brick country house designed by Mies van der Rohe, Gary Cunningham’s design became even more modern and refined with Gary Cunningham’s renovation design.
Recently Renovated Master Bathroom and Kitchen
The clean lines of classic Carrara marble create a stark, simple luxury that continues the contemporary lines of the home. In the kitchen the large, single piece of blue granite is sympathetic to the organic, natural environment of the site and complements the bird’s eye maple of the kitchen cabinetry and breakfast room table.
Preston Hollow Acreage and Lakes Found on Northaven Road
This Preston Hollow estate property has the beauty of the being on 1.51 acres surrounded by a lake. This abundance of land allowed architect Gary Cunningham to conceive the property in four quadrants.
The first quadrant is a vast expanse of manicured lawn that can also easily accommodate a long, sweeping circular drive to the informal sliding wall entrance to the garden. The other quadrants are the pool and private garden, the water and yard, and the service areas that include garage spaces, parking pads, carports, and secondary structures.
