Winnetka Heights
The Winnetka Heights Historic District was one of the first down-zoned neighborhoods in the city of Dallas. With the encouragement of the city plan department, the neighborhood requested mixed-use zoning that would limit the use of the property to its current use. Blanket multi-family zoning was eliminated. In the 1980’s, a home in Winnetka Heights received the restoration house of the year award presented by the Mayor of Dallas. The Oak Cliff Conservation League said about the award presentation that this was the first time a Mayor of Dallas and four television stations had ever come to Oak Cliff. Winnetka Heights initiated revitalization and renovation that spread through the other Oak Cliff neighborhoods.
