SMU Coach Travelogue – Pool to Trinity Groves

#SMU Varsity Women’s coach Steve Collins provides a poignant review of #Dallas describing jumping on the Katy Trail adjacent to the #pool and heading towards #Trinity Groves, the proposed site for #Amazon #HQ2 designed by Principal #Architect @ZachEdwards_AIA and architectural team @Gensler_design. “My day on SaturdayMarch 3 relates to the post AmazonHQ2=TrinityGroves #pathtotrinitygroves and shows some of the amazing opportunities in Dallas. I finished coaching the SMU Women’s Swim Team who are practicing at the SMU Robson & Lindley Aquatic Center. I decide to ride The #KATYTrail Bike path from the pool to Reverchon Park to meet my daughter who is doing community service with #ScottishRiteHospital on their Park clean up day. Hang out with the volunteers and help clean up the park. It’s a beautiful day in Dallas. I carry on down the #KATYTrail to #AmericanAirlinesCenter and see people walking and using Bikeshares to ride and walk to the #StarsGame. I decide to check out the Trails at the #TrinityRiver and see that Dallas has a huge event going on with a Road Race, Yoga ,Vendors and many events at Trinity Groves. The Continental Street now called the #RonKirk Bridge is packed with people enjoying the event. I spend some time with #JarrettWillis who is making #seedbombs in preparation for the great #SeedBomb Event which will target different areas along the #TrinityRiver to bring #nativegrasses and #wildflowers to beautify and prevent erosion along the Trinity River. It was great to see what was going on in Dallas and how easy these trail extensions have made it accessible by bike. I could have easily cut over the #KlydeWarrenPark and go by the #DallasFarmersMarket and #DeepElm to the Sánta Fe Trail and ride past #WhiteRockLake to my #lakewood home but decided to head back up the #KATYTrail. By now the trail is packed with people heading out from the #KATYTrailIce House to the #AmericanAirlinesCenter. Super day in #BigD. So much to see and experience in a 5 mile radius from Downtown. I finish my ride with lunch at Urban Taco at #MockingbirdStation next to the #AquaticCenter!
Sunset from Town House Terrace

Downtown neighborhood provides view of skyline in one direction and sunset over Turtle Creek, Design District and Trinity Groves in the other. Lionel Morrison, F.A.I.A., designed this early contemporary home so one could enjoy living in the city and still have a neighborhood feel close to Knox and the Katy Trail.

Neighborhood View of the City

Hidden in the city

Some architecture can hide in plain sight. The geometric shape of this architecturally significant modern home on Travis designed by Architect Lionel Morrison does not bring attention to itself. Once inside, the home comes alive with sleek open spaces surrounded by windows and views of a lush landscape, terraces, balconies and courtyard.

Home away from home

Dallas attracts architects from across the country to design #ArchitecturallySignificantHomes In the Trinity River Forest, architect Mark Finlay from Connecticut designed this clubhouse for the Trinity Forest Golf Club, the new home of the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament and SMU varsity golf team. This sunlit clubhouse overlooking the forest and golf course designed by Ben Crenshaw becomes a home away from home. Architect Mark Finlay designed this space with the same characteristics of a home that makes us happy. #TrinityForestGolfClub #MPFArchitects #ByronNelson #Architect #Architecture #HomesThatMakeUsHappy #SMU #SMUGolf #Clubhouse #GolfClub #GolfCourse #BenCrenshaw #Golf #Landscape #InteriorDesign #Modern #Contemporary #PathToTrinityGroves #Park #Dallas #CountryClub #TrinityRiver
Arch Swank threw us a curve

Architect Arch Swank, one of the great modern architects in the 1930s-1950s, designed this midcentury modern home on a private drive to #WhiteRockLake. A floating wall always accentuates the modernity of a home. Even more fabulous is the curved floating wall that Arch Swank created for this modern home. Interior designer Paul Draper respected the original architecture with his #renovation #design and contractor Eddie Perez executed it beautifully. This architectural project is a triumph for #historic #preservation for which #Dallas is known. #ArchSwank #AIA #Architect #Architecture #ArchitecturallySignificant #ArchitecturallySignificantModernHomes #Contemporary #Design #HomesThatMakeUsHappy #MidCenturyModern #Modern #ModernArchitecture #ModernHome #ModernDesign #InteriorDesign #FloatingWall #PathToTrinityGroves #SantaFeTrail #EastDallas #Neighborhood #Lakewood
Architectural Layers Illuminate a City

From the rooftop of a turn-of-the-century warehouse, now residence, one can see the architectural evolution of the city, patterns of development and a slice of history. Prominent architects from across the country designed architecturally significant buildings in each decade from the end of the 19th century to the second decade of the 21st century that includes buildings designed by architects who received the Pritzker prize.

Frank Welch design makes us happy

Architect Frank Welch designed modern and Texas Modern homes that were vibrant, filled with sunlight, and perfectly sited as this home in my favorite neighborhood, Turtle Creek Park, across from Turtle Creek and backed up to to the Katy Trail that leads to Trinity Groves.

Surprise of a city lot

Some city modern homes blend into the cityscape or the landscape from the street and then as one moves through the house comes the surprise!
