Jim Clutts, Dallas Architect
Past Dallas Architect
James Arthur (Jim) Clutts, FAIA (1925–2021), was a distinguished architect whose work significantly shaped Dallas’s architectural landscape. After serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Clutts embarked on a prolific career that included key roles at Harwood K. Smith and Partners, where he contributed to landmark projects such as St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church and The Hockaday School. In 1961, he co-founded Clutts & Parker Architects, which later evolved into Harper, Kemp, Clutts, and Parker (HKCP), focusing on campus master planning and building design across Texas. Clutts’s dedication to the profession was recognized with the Llewellyn Pitts Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Texas Society of Architects in 1987 and the AIA Dallas Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. His legacy continues through his son, John Clutts, who founded The Clutts Agency in 1997, a prominent Dallas-based talent agency.
