Cliff May, International Architect
Past International Architect
Cliff May (1908–1989) was a visionary designer renowned for pioneering the California Ranch-style house, a harmonious blend of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and modernist principles. Although not formally licensed as an architect until shortly before his death, May’s innovative designs emphasized seamless indoor-outdoor living, characterized by low-pitched roofs, open floor plans, and extensive use of glass. His influence extended beyond California, notably impacting the Dallas architectural scene. In the 1950s, May collaborated on prefabricated tract homes, leading to the development of mid-century modern neighborhoods in East Dallas, such as Casa View Oaks. These homes reflect his signature style, contributing to the city’s rich architectural heritage.
